A faulty electrical cable caused a predawn power outage today in Murrieta that initially affected more than 1,500 homes and businesses. The outage was reported at 2:24 a.m. on Cole Creek Court, a residential area about two blocks east of Clinton Keith Road, according to the Southern California Edison web site. A total of 1,527 addresses were first affected by the blackout, but power had been restored to 547 accounts by midmorning, SCE spokeswoman Lois Pitter Bruce said. Work crews were repairing the malfunctioning cable, Bruce said. Most of the addresses are expected to have power restored by 3 p.m., SCE reported.
