The Menifee Police Department Traffic Unit arrested two people for driving under the influence during one of their regularly scheduled DUI and Driver's License checkpoints on Saturday, June 14, 2014, in the area of Newport Road and Bradley Road, according to a Riverside County Sheriff's report. The checkpoint took place from 8:00 p.m. that evening until 2:00 a.m. in the morning of June 15. During that time police officials gave field sobriety tests to 14 people and determined that two of those people were driving under the influence, Sgt. J.P. Strang said. Additionally, 10 Drivers were cited or arrested for operating a vehicle without a license or on a suspended one and eight vehicles were towed, according to Strang. Strang added that the purpose of the checkpoint was to lower the number of DUI-related accidents and deaths. The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
